Simple Circuits

  • Introduces students to the Locktronics board and components.
  • Shows students that you need to have a complete circuit (path for electricity to flow) for a circuit to work.
  • Students build circuits with bulbs and switches and explore altering their order.

Using Switches

  • Explains that closed switches allow current to pass through and open switches stop it from flowing.
  • Students then experiment with a simple bulb and switch circuit to think about current routes.

Buzzers and Motors

  • Shows that some components change their behaviour if you change the amount of electricity that flows through them.
  • Students investigate how the pitch of the buzzer changes with voltage.
  • Students investigate how the speed and direction of the motor can also be changed.

Energy Changes

  • Shows that electrical circuits always involve energy changes (transfers).
  • Students can draw simple energy transfer diagrams.
  • Students build a circuit and look at the energy changes which each component makes.
