How Locktronics works

Locktronics is supplied either as kits, which cover specific topic areas, or as individual components

The Locktronics system consists of:
  • A wide selection of electrical, electronic and electro-mechanical-magnetic components mounted on carriers
  • A selection of baseboards on which the carriers quickly and easily mount
  • Ancillaries, such as power supplies, to provide all of the remaining facilities required to assemble and run fully functional circuits
  • Instrumentation to monitor the test circuits (this is usually standard laboratory test equipment)
  • Support material such as manuals, user guides, work cards, and online resources
To perform experiments using Locktronics:
  • Students choose Locktronics components with which to build their circuits. Circuits are provided by Locktronics support material, the class supervisor, or from their own project designs.
  • Students fit component carriers onto secure, self-cleaning connecting points on a baseboard. The convenient connection method means circuits are quick to build, easy to change, and ensure the best use of laboratory and classroom time.
  • When students have completed a circuit, they can easily relate it to the equivalent circuit diagram. This is because each Locktronics component carrier clearly displays the appropriate circuit symbol on its top surface, which is extremely helpful at all levels.
  • Students then test circuits as appropriate. All parts of Locktronics circuits are accessible with measuring instruments to monitor and understand their operation.
  • Because final circuits are uncluttered and easy to comprehend, students gain a clear understanding of circuit layout and function. After testing the circuit they can then move on to the next stage of their experiment or begin a report.
